Read Exodus 17:6 out loud with your family.
Ask the following question and discuss the answer together as a family.
Q: You're hiking in the desert where it hasn't rained for weeks when you run out of water. Where can you find drinking water?
Parent Note: The Israelites were an enormous group of people, so while finding a little puddle of water might help us out, it wasn't going to solve the Israelites' problem. They would need a stream, river, or lake to help them, so that's what God gave them. God created the entire universe and all the water on this planet. So while we can't go out and tap a rock to get some water when we're thirsty, God can tell Moses to touch a rock with his staff and it becomes a water fountain. This planet is God's creation, and if He wants to make water come out of a rock, He has the power to make that happen.
Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:
Dear Lord, thank You for taking care of the Israelites.
I know that You take care of me too.
Help me to remember that with You, all things are possible.
We ask these things in Jesus' name, Amen.
