March 23 // Communion is a symbol.

Read Matthew 26:26-28 out loud with your family.

Ask the following question and discuss the answer together as a family.

Q: How would you describe Communion to someone who had never taken it?

Parent Note: Being told that we are to remember Jesus by eating His flesh and drinking His blood is pretty confusing! Let your child know know that Communion is an opportunity for us to reflect on the sacrifice and suffering that Jesus went through to save us. His body was beaten and bloodied, which is symbolized by the broken bread. His blood was shed, which is symbolized by the wine.

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear Lord, thank You for reminders of Your love in my life.
I know that Communion is a symbol for the sacrifice You made.
Help me to understand the beauty of the cross.
We ask these things in Jesus' name, Amen.
