Read Genesis 37:3 out loud with your family.
Ask the following question and discuss the answer together as a family.
Q: Have you ever had a teacher who had an obvious favorite student?
Parent Note: When this happens, it sometimes feels like there is nothing we can do that will make the teacher like us or approve of our work as much as he or she does for this one preferred student. It can be discouraging. While this can make us feel bad in the classroom, imagine how awful it would feel to know that your parent liked your sibling better than you! This likely would make us jealous, just like Joseph’s brothers’ were of the love and attention he got from their father. God is our father, and He loves every one of His children equally. God’s love is unconditional and limitless.
Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:
Dear God, thank You for loving me.
I know that I am cared for and special in Your eyes.
Help me to share that love with others.
In Jesus’s name, amen.
