October 5 // Be a helper.

Read Luke 10:35 out loud with your family.

Ask the following question and discuss the answer together as a family.

Q: How much money would you spend to make sure Darth Vader survived after an attack?

Parent Note: The hatred between Jews and Samaritans was mutual, and yet this one Samaritan not only helped get this injured Jew to a nearby inn, he paid money to make sure that the innkeeper took care of him. The only thing the Samaritan knew about the injured traveler was that he was Jewish—but the Samaritan helped him anyway. This is what Jesus calls us to do. No matter who the person is, no matter what culture he or she is a part of, we are to help in any way we can.

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank You for loving me.
I know that Jesus gave all he had to save me.
Help me to be a help others, no matter who they are.
We ask these things in Jesus' name, Amen.
