December 31 // Never alone.

Read Revelation 1:9 out loud with your family.

Ask the following question and discuss the answer together as a family.

Q: Why is being grounded one of the worst punishments?

Parent Note: Being grounded means that we cannot be with our friends and do fun things with them. The Apostle John was exiled to the island of Patmos. He was cut off from friends and family as punishment for not recognizing the emperor of Rome as divine. The emperor used exile as a punishment for many Christians, but while exile did remove these people from their families, friends, and Roman society, it didn’t remove them from the presence of God. While John was in exile, he continued to hear from God; in fact, God gave him a glimpse into Heaven.

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear Lord, thank You that You are always with me.
I know that I am never truly alone, because You live in my heart.
Help me to be comforted by Your presence.
We ask these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.
