August 16 // We are saved by faith.

Read Matthew 3:11 out loud with your family.

Ask the following question and discuss the answer together as a family.

Q: If a stain is removed from your favorite shirt, do you need to keep trying to clean the stain?

Parent Note: If the stain is gone, the stain is gone. Once we accept Jesus as our Savior and recognize what His sacrifice on the cross has done for us, we are forgiven and saved. Baptism does symbolize being washed clean of sin, but it also symbolizes being made new. When we are submerged into the water, it symbolizes the burial of our old sinful self with Jesus. Because of His death, we are no longer under the curse of sin. When we emerge from the water, it symbolizes our resurrection with Christ.

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear Lord, thank You for making a way for me to be saved.
I know that there is nothing I can do to deserve Your grace, but Yougive it to me because You love me!
Please help me to live my life as a new creation in You.
We ask these things in Jesus’ name, Amen.
