September 19 // Show gratitude.

Read Luke 17:16 out loud with your family.

Ask the following question and discuss the answer together as a family.

Q: You help your friend do his homework and study for a test. He doesn’t say thank you, even after getting an A on the test. How does that make you feel?

Parent Note: That isn’t going to make us feel great, and it’s not going to make us want to help this friend again in the future. When God blesses us, we should be thankful, like the one leper who returned to worship Jesus for what He had done for him. Fortunately for us, forgetting to thank God for His blessings won’t stop Him from blessing us in the future; but it is important that we try to remember to express our gratitude for everything God gives us. When we forget to thank God, we aren’t giving credit to God for the blessing. We did not earn them, we are blessed because of God’s grace and love.

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank You for all of Your blessings.
I know that every good thing comes from You.
Please help me to show how thankful I am, and to share it with the world.
We ask these things in Jesus' name, Amen.
