December 21 // The census in Bethlehem.

Read Matthew 2:1-3 out loud with your family.

Ask the following question and discuss the answer together as a family.

Q: How can you tell how much money is in a piggy bank?

Parent Note: It’s hard to know how much money has been put into a piggy bank, so we have to open them up and dump all of the change out so we can count it all. In a way, this is what a census is. The Roman emperor wanted to know how many people were living in the Roman territories, so he ordered everyone to be counted. This was done so they could determine how much people should be paying in taxes.

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank You for Your perfect plan.
You knew every step of Mary and Joseph’s journey, and You know mine too.
Help me to trust You wherever I go.
We ask these things in Jesus' name, Amen.
