September 23 // Be generous.

Read Luke 19:2 out loud with your family.

Ask the following question and discuss the answer together as a family.

Q: If someone gave you $20 to buy something that costs $15, is it okay to keep the change?

Parent Note: No, that’s stealing! Now, imagine you told this person that the thing they wanted wasn’t $15, it was $25 so that you could keep even more of their money. That is what Zacchaeus was doing. He was telling people that they owed more tax money than they actually did, and then he kept the excess. That makes him a liar and a thief.

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank You for being generous.
I know that everything I have is a gift from You.
Please help me to be generous with what You’ve given me.
We ask this in Jesus’s name, Amen.
