July 17 Recap & Devo

07.17.16

TODAY’S OVERVIEW:

BIBLE STORY:

THE FIERY FURNACE

BIBLE PASSAGE:

DANIEL 3

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? - Psalm 118:6

CHRIST CONNECTION:

Like God rescued the men in the fire, He rescues us from sin through Jesus.

BOTTOM LINE:

God protects us.

TABLE TALK:

Open up your bible to Daniel 3. Read it out loud together.

  • Talk about a time that you had to stand up for something or someone. What happened?
  • What happened to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego when they stood up for what they believed? What did people say afterward?
  • Have you ever been teased for believing in Jesus? How did that feel?
  • Who can you talk to when you feel lonely or misunderstood? (God, parents, a Christian friend, etc.) How can you honor God in those times?

AFFIRMATION:

To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).

Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.

How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.

FAMILY PRAYER:

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank you for protecting me

You are strong and mighty

Please help me to stand up for my faith, no matter what

In Jesus’ name, amen

THIS MONTH’S FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: GOODNESS

As a family, go through the following questions…

Where does goodness come from?

Can you think of another word for goodness?

How can we see God’s goodness in this story?
