SOLOMON ASKS FOR WISDOM
1 KINGS 3:1-15
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. - James 1:5
Like Solomon, Jesus relied on God’s wisdom for his life.
God wants to give us wisdom.
Open up your bible to today’s passage. Read it together as a family.
- If God told you that you could have anything in the world, what would you ask for?
- When God told Solomon he could have anything he asked for, what did Solomon want?
- What is wisdom? (wisdom is what God says is best, making choices that honor God)
- Why is wisdom important? How does it help us? How does it honor God?
- How can you get wisdom?
To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).
Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.
How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.
Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:
Dear God, thank you for caring about my life and my choices
You are wise and thoughtful
Please help me remember that your plans are greater than mine
In Jesus’ name, amen
THIS MONTH’S FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: SELF CONTROL
