March 6 Recap & Devotional

03.06.16

TODAY’S OVERVIEW:

BIBLE STORY:

THE SUN STANDS STILL

BIBLE PASSAGE:

JOSHUA 10:1-15

KEY VERSE:

“With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” - Matthew 19:26

CHRIST CONNECTION:

Like Joshua, Jesus prayed in times of trouble.

BOTTOM LINE:

God fights for His people.

TABLE TALK:

Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read the story out loud.

  • How does this story remind you of the story we talked about last week (Joshua and the Battle of Jericho)?
  • What miracle happened in the story? Why did it happen?
  • Why is prayer important?
  • What kinds of things did Jesus pray about? (see Matthew 6:9-13)
  • Talk about a time when your prayer was answered.

AFFIRMATION:

To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).

Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.

How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.

FAMILY PRAYER:

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank you for hearing my prayers

You are good and always take care of me

Please help me to be courageous and trust You

In Jesus’ name, amen

THIS MONTH’S VIRTUE: SACRIFICE

As a family, go through the following questions…

Can you think of any movies or stories that are about sacrifice?

Is sacrifice always a good thing? Why or why not?

How can we see sacrifice in today’s bible story?
