February 28 Recap & Devotional

02.28.16

TODAY’S OVERVIEW:

BIBLE STORY:

JOSHUA AT JERICHO

BIBLE PASSAGE:

JOSHUA 6

KEY VERSE:

“Here is what I am commanding you to do. Be strong and brave. Do not be terrified. Do not lose hope. I am the Lord your God. I will be with you everywhere you go."

JOSHUA 1:9

CHRIST CONNECTION:

Like God provided for the Israelites’ needs at Jericho, He provides our need for a Savior in Jesus.

BOTTOM LINE:

God fights for His people.

TABLE TALK:

Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read the story out loud.

  • Read Joshua 1:9 together. What do you think that meant for Joshua?
  • Can you be afraid and still have courage?
  • How do you think Joshua felt when God told him what to do? Why?
  • Can you think of a time when you obeyed a direction that didn't make very much sense to you (maybe from a teacher, your parent, or in the bible)? What happened?
  • Can we trust that God's commands are good? Why?

AFFIRMATION:

To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).

Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.

How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.

FAMILY PRAYER:

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank you for being my Provider

You are a always good

Please help me to be courageous and trust You

In Jesus’ name, amen
