JESUS’ BIRTH IS FORETOLD
"A child will be born to us. A son will be given to us. He will rule over us. And he will be called Wonderful Adviser and Mighty God. He will also be called Father Who Lives Forever and Prince Who Brings Peace." - ISAIAH 9:6
Jesus fulfilled all of the prophecies of the Messiah.
The Old Testament told us that Jesus would come.
Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read it together as a family.
- What is something you’ve had to wait a long time for? How did it feel to wait for it? What about when it finally arrived?
- The Jews spent many, many years waiting for God to send the Messiah he had promised. Read today’s key verse out loud. Who do you think this verse is about?
- Read Isaiah 7:14 out loud. What does “Immanuel” mean? How is Jesus “Immanuel?”
- God’s people had to be patient and faithful while they waited for Jesus. How can we be patient and faithful while we wait for things?
To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).
Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.
How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.
Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:
Dear God, thank you for keeping your promise to send a Son
You are perfect and always take care of me
Please show me how to be thankful for what you’ve done
In Jesus’ name, amen
