January 31 Recap & Devotional

01.31.16

TODAY’S OVERVIEW:

BIBLE STORY:

A PROMISE TO ABRAM

BIBLE PASSAGE:

GENESIS 15:1-21

KEY VERSE:

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” - Hebrews 11:1

CHRIST CONNECTION:

Like God promised Abram he would send him a son, He also promised to send us a Savior.

BOTTOM LINE:

We can trust God’s plan for our lives.

TABLE TALK:

Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read the story out loud.

  • How many children did God say Abram would have? What did He mean?
  • What is “faith?” Why is it important?
  • Read today’s key verse out loud. Did Abram have faith in God?
  • What other things do people put their faith in?
  • Why should we put our faith in God more than anything else?

 AFFIRMATION:

To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).

Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.

How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.

FAMILY PRAYER:

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank you for Your presence in my life

You are worthy of trust and praise

Please help me to trust in Your plan for my life

In Jesus’ name, amen

THIS MONTH’S FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: FAITHFULNESS

As a family, go through the following questions…

What is faithfulness?

Where does faithfulness come from?

How can we see God’s faithfulness in today’s bible story?
