SAMUEL HEARS GOD
1 SAMUEL 3
MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”
- 2 TIMOTHY 3:16
Like Samuel heard God’s voice, Jesus is the Word of God.
God speaks to us through the bible.
Open up your bible to today’s bible passage. Read it out loud as a family.
Last week you heard about Samuel’s mother, Hannah. Do you remember what happened in Hannah’s story?
What did Samuel hear? What do you think you would do if you were Samuel?
What did God tell Samuel to do? How did Samuel feel about that? Did he obey God?
Read today’s memory verse out loud. Are there any words in there that you don’t know? Which ones, and what do you think they mean?
Do you have a favorite bible verse? If so, what is it? What do you learn about God from that verse?
To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).
Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.
How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.
Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:
Dear God, thank you for the bible
Your words are good and perfect
Please help me to use my ears and my heart to hear Your voice
In Jesus’ name, amen
THIS MONTH’S FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: GENTLENESS
As a family, go through the following questions…
When is it hard for you to be gentle?
Give one example of a way you can be gentle this week.
How can we see God’s gentleness in this story?
