1 SAMUEL 1-2
MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:
“He comforts us in all our troubles. Now we can comfort others when they are in trouble. We ourselves receive comfort from God.”
- 1 CORINTHIANS 1:4
Like Hannah, Jesus prayed in times of trouble.
We can talk to God through prayer.
Ask your child to retell this Sunday’s bible story to you.
How did Hannah feel, and why?
Read today’s bible verse out loud. How did God comfort Hannah?
Think about the last time that you were very upset or very angry. What did you do? Did you break things, say mean words, or disobey your parents? Why, or why not?
What did Hannah do when she was upset?
When are times that you pray? (before eating, at bedtime, etc) When are other times that you could pray?
Why should we pray?
To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).
Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.
How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.
Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:
Dear God, thank you for hearing my prayers
You are a good God who gives many blessings
Please help me to turn to You in prayer when, I am struggling and when I am happy
In Jesus’ name, amen
THIS MONTH’S FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: GENTLENESS
As a family, go through the following questions…
Who is the most gentle person you know? What makes them gentle?
Can you still be gentle when you are angry or upset?
How can we see God’s gentleness in this story?
