December 20 Recap & Devotional

12.20.15

TODAY’S OVERVIEW:

BIBLE STORY:

THE STORY OF CHRISTMAS

BIBLE PASSAGE:

LUKE 2:1-21

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord.”

LUKE 2:11

CHRIST CONNECTION:

Christmas is the celebration of Jesus’ birth.

BOTTOM LINE:

Jesus is the best gift we could ever receive.

TABLE TALK:

Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read it together as a family.

What comes to mind when you think about Christmas?

How is Jesus like a gift?

How can we celebrate Jesus this Christmas? How can we tell other people about Jesus this Christmas?

AFFIRMATION:

To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).

Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.

How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.

FAMILY PRAYER:

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank you for this time to celebrate Jesus

You are a great God who deserves to be worshipped and celebrated

Please help me to put you first in my life

In Jesus’ name, amen

THIS MONTH’S FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: JOY

What makes you most joyful?

How can you help bring other people joy?

How can you see in joy in today’s story?
