MARY, JOSEPH, & THE ANGEL
MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:
“Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. He is the Messiah, the Lord.”
Like the Holy Spirit came to Mary, we receive the Holy Spirit when we accept Jesus.
God fulfilled his promise of a savior through Jesus.
Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read it together as a family.
What did the angel say to Mary? How do you think Mary felt?
Why did the angel tell Joseph he would name is son Jesus? Last week talked about the name Immanuel- do you remember what it means?
How did the wise men feel when they saw the star? (See Matthew 2:10). What does it mean to be full of joy? What is something that makes you joyful? How do you behave, think, and feel when you are joyful? Is the birth of Jesus something that makes you joyful?
To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).
Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.
How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.
Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:
Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus
You are trustworthy and keep your promises
Please help me to honor you in this season, and in each day
In Jesus’ name, amen
