November 1 Recap & Devotional

11.01.15

TODAY’S OVERVIEW:

BIBLE STORY:

PARABLE OF THE SOWER

BIBLE PASSAGE:

MATTHEW 13:1-23

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

“Faith is being sure of what we hope for. It is being sure of what we do not see.” - HEBREWS 11:1

CHRIST CONNECTION:

Like a seed, faith in Jesus needs to grow.

BOTTOM LINE:

We can trust the Word of God.

TABLE TALK:

Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read it together as a family.

What does the seed represent? The soils?

When was the last time you were discouraged about something? What did you do about it?

Why is it important to look to Jesus in the midst of trouble?

AFFIRMATION:

To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).

Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.

How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.

FAMILY PRAYER:

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank you for always being there for me

You are perfect and wise

Please give me wisdom to understand your Word and obey it

In Jesus’ name, amen

THIS MONTH’S FOCUS: THANKFULNESS

What does it mean to be thankful?

How can you show your thankfulness?

How does thankfulness relate to today’s story?
