October 25 Recap & Devotional

10.25.15

TODAY’S OVERVIEW:

BIBLE STORY:

LIGHT OF THE WORLD

BIBLE PASSAGE:

MATTHEW 5:14-16

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill can’t be hidden. Also, people do not light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand. Then it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine so others can see it. Then they will see the good things you do. And they will bring glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

MATTHEW 5:14-16

CHRIST CONNECTION:

Like a light, Jesus reveals what is true.

BOTTOM LINE:

God wants to use us for his glory.

TABLE TALK:

Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read it together as a family.

What does it mean that we are a “light of the world?”

What is light like? How is Jesus like a light to us?

How can you let your light shine in front of your friends? Neighbors? Family?

Why is it important for you to tell other people about Jesus?

AFFIRMATION:

To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).

Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.

How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.

FAMILY PRAYER:

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank you for saving me

You give me love and purpose

Please help me to use what you’ve given me to share the gospel

In Jesus’ name, amen

THIS MONTH’S FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: KINDNESS

What does a light do?

How can kindness help us to be a light?

How do we see kindness in today’s bible story?
