October 18 Recap & Devotional

10.18.15

TODAY’S OVERVIEW:

BIBLE STORY:

ZACCHAEUS

BIBLE PASSAGE:

LUKE 19:1-10

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

“Do everything you say or do in the name of the Lord Jesus. Always give thanks to God the Father through Christ.” - COLOSSIANS 3:17

CHRIST CONNECTION:

Like Jesus forgave Zacchaeus, Jesus loves and forgives us.

BOTTOM LINE:

Jesus came to save sinners.

TABLE TALK:

Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read it together as a family.

Who are “the lost”?

What was Zacchaeus’s job?

What changed about Zacchaeus when he met Jesus?

Jesus loves us, even though we are not perfect. How does that make you feel?

How can we love other people like Jesus loves us? Give an example.

AFFIRMATION:

To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).

Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.

How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.

FAMILY PRAYER:

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank you for loving sinners

You are full of grace

Please help me to turn from my sin and follow you

In Jesus’ name, amen

THIS MONTH’S FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: KINDNESS

When is it difficult for you to be kind?

Have you ever been kind to someone, even though they were mean to you? Talk about it!

How do we see kindness in today’s bible story?
