THE LORD’S PRAYER
MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:
“Do everything you say or do in the name of the Lord Jesus. Always give thanks to God the Father through Christ.” - COLOSSIANS 3:17
Jesus taught us how to pray.
God wants us to pray to Him.
Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read it together as a family.
What is prayer?
How is prayer like talking to another person? How is it different?
Why do we pray? What kinds of things can you pray about?
What did Jesus say about praying in secret? What do you think that means? Is it still okay to pray around other people?
Reread Matthew 6:10. What do you think that means?
Choose someone or something that you can pray for this week. Write it down somewhere where your family can see it as a reminder.
To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).
Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.
How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.
Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:
Dear God, thank you for hearing me
You are a great God who listens to my prayers
Please help me remember that I can always talk to You
In Jesus’ name, amen
THIS MONTH’S FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: KINDNESS
Talk about a time someone was kind to you. How did you feel?
Talk about a time someone was unkind to you. How did you feel?
How do we see kindness in today’s bible story?
