January 4 Recap & Devotional

01.04.15

TODAY’S OVERVIEW:

BIBLE STORY:

IN THE BEGINNING

BIBLE PASSAGE:

GENESIS 1

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

JOHN 1:1

CHRIST CONNECTION:

Jesus is over all of creation.

BOTTOM LINE:

God created us to worship Him.

TABLE TALK:

Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read through the different days of creation.

What does the word “create” make you think of?

The bible tells us that God created everything. What does that tell us about Him?

Read Genesis 1:27 out loud. What does “likeness” mean?

God created us to worship Him. How can you worship God?

AFFIRMATION:

To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).

Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.

How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.

FAMILY PRAYER:

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank you for making me

You are creative and powerful

Please help me to use the life You gave me for Your will

In Jesus’ name, amen

THIS MONTH’S FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: PEACE

As a family, go through the following questions…

What does “peace” mean?

What are some things that are peaceful?

How can we see peace in today’s bible story?
