JESUS’ BIRTH IS FORETOLD
MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:
“The virgin is going to have a baby. She will give birth to a son. And he will be called Immanuel. The name Immanuel means ‘God with us.’”
Jesus fulfilled all of the prophecies of the Messiah.
The Old Testament told us that Jesus would come.
Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read it together as a family.
The Jews spent many, many years waiting for God to send the Messiah he had promised. Have you ever had to wait a long time for something? What was that thing? How did it feel to wait for it? What about when it finally arrived?
Read today’s memory verse out loud. What does “Immanuel” mean? How is Jesus “Immanuel?”
God’s people had to be patient and faithful while they waited for Jesus. How can we be patient and faithful while we wait for things?
To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).
Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.
How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.
Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:
Dear God, thank you for sending your Son
You are good and merciful
Please show me how to be thankful for what you’ve done
In Jesus’ name, amen
