November 9 Recap & Devotional

11.09.14

TODAY’S OVERVIEW:

BIBLE STORY:

LAZARUS

BIBLE PASSAGE:

JOHN 11:1-44

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

”Nothing is impossible with God.”

LUKE 1:37

CHRIST CONNECTION:

By raising Lazarus from the dead, Jesus showed that he had power over death.

BOTTOM LINE:

Faith in Jesus gives us life.

TABLE TALK:

Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read it together as a family.

As a family, think of 3 words that describe Jesus. Explain why you picked those words.

Why do you think Jesus waited two days before he left to see Lazarus?

Jesus was able to raise Lazarus from the dead. What does that tell us about Him?

Can you think of a time you were worried, but you trusted Jesus? What happened?

AFFIRMATION:

To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).

Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.

How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.

FAMILY PRAYER:

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank you for being trustworthy

You are powerful and loving

Please help me to trust you

In Jesus’ name, amen

THIS MONTH’S FOCUS: THANKFULNESS

What does the bible say about thankfulness?

Is it hard to be thankful sometimes? Why?

How can we see thankfulness in today's story?
