November 2 Recap & Devotional

11.02.14

TODAY’S OVERVIEW:

BIBLE STORY:

PARABLE OF THE SOWER

BIBLE PASSAGE:

MATTHEW 13:1-23

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

“If any of you need wisdom, ask God for it. He will give it to you. God gives freely to everyone. He doesn’t find fault.”

JAMES 1:5

CHRIST CONNECTION:

Like a seed, faith in Jesus needs to grow.

BOTTOM LINE:

We can trust the Word of God.

TABLE TALK:

Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read it together as a family.

What do the different soils represent?

What does the seed represent?

Why should we trust God's Word?

Can you think of a time when you depended on God's Word? What happened?

AFFIRMATION:

To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).

Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.

How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.

FAMILY PRAYER:

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank you for reaching out and saving me

You are wise and full of grace

Please help me to depend on you

In Jesus’ name, amen

THIS MONTH’S FOCUS: THANKFULNESS

What does it mean to be thankful?

Why is thankfulness important?

How do we see thankfulness in today’s story?
