November 16 Recap & Devotional

11.16.14

TODAY’S OVERVIEW:

BIBLE STORY:

THE PRODIGAL SON

BIBLE PASSAGE:

LUKE 15:11-32

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

“How great is the love the Father has given us so freely! Now we can be called children of God. And that’s what we really are!”

- 1 JOHN 3:1

CHRIST CONNECTION:

Our Heavenly Father forgives our sins when we put our faith in Jesus.

BOTTOM LINE:

God is a loving Father.

TABLE TALK:

Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read it together as a family.

How did the father react when his son came home? Why do you think he reacted that way?

How is the father like God?

Read John 3:16-17 out loud. Why did God save us?

Does God forgive us when we sin?

AFFIRMATION:

To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).

Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.

How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.

FAMILY PRAYER:

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank you for saving me

You are loving and merciful

Please help me turn away from sin and run to You

In Jesus’ name, amen

THIS MONTH’S FOCUS: THANKFULNESS

What is something you are thankful for today?

Is it hard to be thankful sometimes? Why or why not?

How does thankfulness relate to today’s story?
