October 26 Recap & Devotional

BIBLE STORY:

LIGHT OF THE WORLD

BIBLE PASSAGE:

MATTHEW 5:14-16

MEMORY VERSE OF THE DAY:

“Jesus spoke to the people again. He said, ‘I am the light of the world. Those who follow me will never walk in darkness. They will have the light that leads to life.’”

JOHN 8:12

CHRIST CONNECTION:

Like a light, Jesus reveals what is true.

BOTTOM LINE:

God wants to use us for his glory.

TABLE TALK:

Open your bibles to today’s passage. Read it together as a family.

What does it mean that we are a “light of the world?”

How can you let your light shine in front of your friends? Neighbors? Family?

How is Jesus like a light to us?

AFFIRMATION:

To affirm someone is to tell them what you know to be true about them. We can see affirmation used to uplift people in Scripture. (ex: Paul’s letters to the churches; see Philemon 1:4-7).

Take this time to encourage each member of your family through affirmation.

How do you see them becoming more like Jesus? What makes you thankful for them? Share these things with one another now as a family.

FAMILY PRAYER:

Read the following prayer out loud. Have your kids repeat after you:

Dear God, thank you for saving me

You give me love and purpose

Please help me to use what you’ve given me to share the gospel

In Jesus’ name, amen

THIS MONTH’S FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT: SELF CONTROL

What does a light do?

How can having self control help us to be a light?

How do we see self control in today’s bible story?
